Organization UpdateMisBanner3

June 9, 2022

Dear Families and Staff,

As promised, we want to keep you informed about changes that are occurring here at Misericordia. As we indicated previously, our organization changes are stemming from the need to continuously work on recruiting, retaining and offering development and growth opportunities for our staff. The staffing shortages continue to be our number one focus. In looking at the current leadership capacity, it is clearly evident that we need to reduce the scope of responsibility for several key positions. It will allow us to keep the residents at the forefront of what we do while we are taking care of the staff that take care of our residents. It will also allow opportunities for implementation of growth and development plans to ensure we continue to have a pipeline of leadership for now and the future.

We have asked Val Freil to become the Administrator of the Marian Center. Val has been in several positions in Marian and actually began her career at Misericordia in Marian Center 20 years ago. Val’s appointment to this role is the next step in her Misericordia career and her continued commitment to the residents, their families and the staff of the Marian Center.  There will be a time of transition for Val and Chris Krackenberger as we move forward. We understand that this is a true loss for Chris as she too has shown the utmost commitment to the Marian Center. Chris will always be a part of Marian Center and her oversight and guidance is truly appreciated. Chris will continue to be the Administrator for Quinlan and Mercy Glen.

We have also asked Carol Hawley to be the Administrator of Shannon Apartments. She will oversee the Shannon Apartments in addition to some key duties that impact our entire organization. Carol is in charge of Emergency Management and has been critical to the implementation and development of the Awards and Med Support programs which are our new Electronic Health Record.  Carol will also be learning licensure and certification processes for any new projects, including Unity.  As you know Mary Pat was the named Administrator for Shannon, this was in name only. It is Carol who is fully present supporting the residents, the wonderful staff, programs, and Shannon families in addition to maintaining a beautiful environment. Carol has been here 35 years and we are blessed to have her and Val move to these important roles as a part of our leadership team.

Change is not always easy for our staff and families but more often than not it can be good. We are continually amazed at how resilient our residents are and have been through the past two years. We feel this is another important step in building our leadership team in order to continue to providing excellent quality care for our current and future residents. This ensures that Misericordia continues its’ legacy into the next 100 years.

We are grateful for the support of our staff and families and for being on this journey with us. God continues to bless our work. We appreciate each and every one of you.

Fr. Jack Clair, President and Executive Director

Mary Pat O’Brien, Executive Vice President
